Hi and welcome to Small Pink Giraffe! I’m an East Coast girl living in London Ontario, with a passion for keeping items out of the landfill. I have an eye for style and an education in Interior Design. If I had to pick one style to describe myself, it would be eclectic. I have a love for all things vintage and antique, but am also quite contemporary. Why lock yourself into just one category, when you can love so much all at once!
I started my SpG journey in 2009 around the time I was pregnant with my oldest son. I needed an outlet from all the boyish things my life was about at the time. It all started with a single glass bead and metal pendant. From there I started creating custom one of a kind jewellery, often using old reclaimed beads and broken pieces of costume jewellery. From there I started to create cute infant headbands for friends, and local photographers. That blossomed into creating bridal party jewellery and matching hair accessories for brides and the bridal party. Often using remnants of the bridesmaid dresses saved after alterations, I’ve matched hair pieces in multiple bridal colours. All of my bride hair fascinators are one of a kind, just like every bride. After I had my second son, I decided to get back to my decorating roots, and started refinishing furniture.
At 17 I refinished my first piece of furniture and from there it became an addiction. Taking something lack lustre and giving it an entirely new look brings me so much joy! Many of my pieces have been rescued from thrift stores, friends and even found curbside. If I can save even just one piece of furniture from the dump then I will! While doing furniture I also branched off into making wooden signs using reclaimed wood. I had taken old deck boards from my house, cut them to size and started my sign making. Some of the most unique signs come from the most random pieces of wood!
I turned my attention to sewing one winter when I wasn’t able to sand furniture inside. I’ve created fashion infinity scarves, custom pillows and window treatments, as well as baby blankets. See what I mean, how can I lock myself into just one style!
